Reflection on Second Quarter: HTML Tags and Their Functions

a. What are the learning/discoveries that I have gained?

During the second quarter, I gained a deeper understanding of HTML tags and their essential roles in web development. I learned how to use various tags to structure content on web pages, such as <h1> to <h6> for headings, <p> for paragraphs, <a> for hyperlinks, and <img> for images. I also discovered the importance of attributes like src, href, and alt in enhancing the functionality and accessibility of web pages. Additionally, I became more familiar with the concept of nesting elements within each other to create organized, hierarchical structures in code. Overall, I gained valuable insight into how HTML forms the backbone of web development and the significance of each tag in building functional websites.

b. What are the problems/challenges that I have encountered?

One of the challenges I encountered was understanding the syntax and proper nesting of tags. At times, I struggled to remember which tags should be placed inside others and how to properly close certain tags. For example, I initially had difficulty with placing inline elements like links or images inside block elements like paragraphs or divs. Another issue I faced was ensuring that all the attributes were correctly applied, especially when working with images and links. At first, I often overlooked important attributes like the alt text for accessibility or the correct file paths for images.

c. How did I address these challenges?

To address these challenges, I took a more hands-on approach by practicing coding regularly and experimenting with different tags. I made sure to read documentation and tutorials on HTML, which clarified the correct usage of tags and attributes. I also used visual tools like code editors (e.g., Visual Studio Code) to preview my work, which helped me catch errors quickly. When I encountered syntax issues, I would often consult online resources, including Stack Overflow, or refer to official web development guides for solutions. By repeatedly practicing and checking my work, I became more confident in my understanding of HTML and its correct implementation.

d. Moving on, I will….

Moving forward, I will continue to refine my skills in HTML by experimenting with more complex layouts and integrating CSS to style my pages. I will focus on learning additional HTML tags and exploring more advanced concepts like forms and tables. Furthermore, I plan to work on creating fully functional websites, applying what I've learned about structuring content effectively, ensuring accessibility, and maintaining proper syntax. I will also seek feedback from peers or mentors to further improve my coding practices and ensure that my web pages are both user-friendly and responsive across different devices. Ultimately, I aim to build a solid foundation in web development that will allow me to progress into more advanced topics like JavaScript and dynamic web design.
